A Town of Poughkeepsie man was killed after being struck by an empty dump truck and then a car on Lime Kiln Road, according to the East Fishkill Police.
The incident was uncovered around 10 p.m. Thursday when East Fishkill Police responded to a report of a person struck by a truck on Lime Kiln Road in Hopewell Junction, said Chief Kevin Keefe.
Upon arriving the officers located a man on the roadway and two vehicles which had stopped after being involved in the incident.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the victim, a 44-year-old man, was struck while in the southbound lane of Lime Kiln Road by a 2012 Peterbilt tractor hauling an empty dump trailer. The truck, which was traveling south stopped immediately after the collision. After being struck, the victim was then struck a few moments later by a 2008 Ford Focus. The victim was declared dead at the scene, Keefe said.
The driver of the Peterbilt was identified as a 53-year-old man from Scottsville. The driver of the Ford was identified as a 24-year-old Carmel man. Neither driver was injured.
Names are being withheld pending notification of family members.
The Incident occurred on a four-lane portion of Lime Kiln Road between Shenandoah Road and the Lime Kiln Road Extension which was closed until 2:40 a.m. Friday. The investigation is continuing, and autopsy results are pending. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call East Fishkill Police at 221-2111.
